Key Highlights

Scope

No doubt one of my most high-profile projects to date, I was tasked with delivering a detailed fit-out of Nike’s ‘Rise’ concept store within Birmingham’s busy Bullring Shopping Centre. It was a big deal for Nike too, as it was the first of its kind outside of London. The goal of this project was to create an immersive, technology-driven retail environment that allows Nike to engage more closely with the community.

Special Features

Among the most unique features of Nike’s ‘Rise’ concept store here in Birmingham that I had the chance to work on were the bespoke ceiling installations. Uniquely designed and carefully installed, they helped to enhance the store’s aesthetic appeal and aligned it with Nike’s brand identity. Equally, the Nike ‘Rise’ concept store adopted a lot of digital integration and tech, as well as an abundance of advanced in-store technology.

The latter included interactive digital displays and data-driven elements tailored to Nike’s new Birmingham location. As such, customers could get more personalised and engaging shopping experiences. On that note, I also worked on creating community-centric spaces within the Nike ‘Rise’ concept store. Some of these developed spaces included places to host local events, such as run clubs and in-store workouts, among others.

Challenges

For such a unique and comprehensive retail fit-out project, the creation of Nike’s ‘Rise’ concept store presented a distinct set of challenges, including:

  1. Coordinating construction activities within one of Europe’s most frequented shopping centres. With such a busy live environment, there are countless logistical challenges, which require a meticulous plan to ensure minimal disruption to foot traffic and ensure everyone’s safety.
  2. Managing an accelerated timeline to make sure that the store was completed in time for the critical and lucrative Christmas shopping period. This required a highly efficient workflow and adaptability to last-minute alterations, having completed the project in under 6 months.
  3. Overseeing the implementation of intricate design elements, like bespoke ceiling installations, and making sure that they meet the client’s aesthetic standards and functional requirements.

Result

Despite operating within an incredibly tight schedule and having to make last-minute changes, the new Nike ‘Rise’ concept store in Birmingham was completed on time, allowing the store to open in December 2023, just in time for the holiday season. The brand-new concept store was well-received, offering customers a uniquely innovative and immersive retail experience, which neatly blends physical and digital shopping elements. Moreover, the store’s opening solidified the Bullring Shopping Centre’s status as a premier retail destination in the UK.
