Key Highlights
Scope
This project had me involved with the comprehensive fit-out of the new Unite the Union office space, encompassing 10 whole floors. Ultimately, the goal of the project was to create a very functional and modern working environment that helps to support the union’s operations and reflects their commitment to their members.
Special Features
This office fit-out project for Unite the Union and their contractor, Vision Group Ltd includes a modern office design. This meant that I had to implement contemporary design elements and creature comforts to create an efficient and aesthetically pleasing workspace. Moreover, the Unite the Union’s renovated offices needed to house an advanced IT infrastructure, which had to be considered during the project’s execution.
This included the installation of state-of-the-art IT systems in the offices to best support their extensive communication and operational needs. In addition, the union wanted their office to adopt sustainable materials. As such, their refurbished office spaces here utilised eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient systems aplenty, further aligning the Unite the Union and their commitment to sustainability.
Challenges
Refurbishing the Unite the Union’s office space was a massively challenging project, where we had to navigate obstacles such as:
- Achieving substantial cost savings through effective supplier negotiations and optimisation of labour hours. This resulted in notable reductions in delivery and labour costs, upwards of some thousands of pounds compared to the original quote.
- Maintaining an accident-free record by overseeing health and safety protocols for more than 50 workers working simultaneously across 10 whole floors.
- Managing procurement, logistics, and site operations to ensure seamless execution of the fit-out across multiple floors and spanning a large office space.
- Working closely with union representatives and other stakeholders to ensure that the project met their requirements, budgets, and expectations.
Result
Despite how complicated the project was from the get-go, I was able to deliver this project for Unite and Union and their contractor, Vision Group Ltd, on time and within budget. The result is a modern and functional office space, more than capable of supporting the union’s members and offering them the required operational headroom. We even used construction-based apps to help streamline the process, leading to noteworthy time and cost savings for this otherwise complex, mixed-use project for the union and their stakeholders.
